Youth & Family Program

The Wellness Community – Arizona is excited to announce an expansion to our Youth & Family program offerings in 2013. In an effort to better serve the needs of families who experience cancer, we have groups in all of our pillars of program including support services, healthy lifestyle activities, social programs and educational opportunities. We provide programs for both children and teens (ages 7–17) that are diagnosed with cancer as well as those who have family members with cancer. We look to address the needs of the entire family as we expand our continuum of care. Listed below are the Youth & Family Program dates for this calendar:

What’s coming up this month?

Teens Only! Saturday
Support Group
Saturday, June 8th, 12:30–2 PM
Support group for teens ages 13–17 diagnosed with cancer, within 18 months of treatment.

Teen Social
Saturday, June 8th, 2–4 PM
Come meet and hang out with fellow teen cancer survivors. Games and food.


Tuesday Beats (Cancer) Camp ~ June & July
For children ages 7-12 who have been diagnosed with cancer

Join us for a fun four–week camp where you will make your own musical instruments, write songs, and create art projects.

Tuesdays, June 4, 11, 18, 25 from 11 a.m. – 12 noon
AND Tuesdays, July 9, 16, 23, 30 from 11 a.m. – 12 noon


Come to one or all sessions.  Parents will have their own group at the same time.

Youth & Family Fitness
Saturday, June 29, 12–2 PM at Virginia G. Piper Sports and Fitness Center

Rock climbing wall and open swim time at the pool for families and children ages 7–17 affected by cancer in the family.

Off-site Location: Virginia G. Piper Sports and Fitness Center, 5031 E. Washington Street, Phoenix, AZ 85034


Kid Support at the Cancer Support Community ArizonaKidSupport
Tuesdays, 5:30–7 p.m.
(KidSupport will begin in September)

KidSupport is a 10 week support group for children ages 7–12 who have a sibling, parent, grandparent or other loved one diagnosed with cancer. Each week a topic is covered to help children gain age appropriate information, promote discussion about what they are feeling and teach coping skills. Our next session for KidSupport will begin in September.

Family Yoga Class
(No Scheduled programs)

Yoga class for kids ages 7–17, including those diagnosed and those with cancer in the family, and their immediate families to attend together. Marci Edmunds teaches this fun class designed to explore a variety of different breathing techniques, gentle stretches and yoga poses and ending our class with a short guided meditation. A great way to connect family, friends and community together. RSVP.


Youth & Family Art
(no scheduled programs)

Art class for children ages 7–17 and their families affected by cancer. Come and join us for card making!!
